Bug Description

I'm not able to reproduce it reliably.

Sometimes when I login to Gnome, WiFi connection cannot be established. Network manager shows a progress (wheel) on gnome panel, but it fails to connect during one minute - dialog with preselected credentials to WPA2 connection appears and I have to click on "Connect" again.

dmesg log shows:

Sometimes a next attempt is successful, sometimes I have to perform further 2-3 attempts so that connection can be established. Then the network works well.

Please compare with bug 496093. You seem to have a different wireless card, but it still looks like a duplicate.

It's hard to say if it is the same bug. Most users affected by bug #496093 have set mixed mode (WPA/WPA2) on their router, whereas I'm using "WPA2 only" mode.

Hi Jaromir,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 549827

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't hit this issue for long time since I reported it. I suppose it could be fixed somehow.

I have very similar behavior, happens several time during a day. It happen with 9.10 but it became more frequent with 10.4.The major difference with the original report that a successful connection is always established after reboot.

On some occasions both wireless and wired connection exist, but no ip is accessible. eth0 always restores normal operations as soon as I restart networking service (disable/enable through Network manager applet), but it doesn't help wireless connection could not be established, even though a network is available and signal strength is around 50%.

After I tried to reload ath9k driver and I could reconnect, though it takes 10-15 seconds (is it normal?)

Linux volvovski-home 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

dmesg is very similar to what was presented in the original report. Any other information you need?

Thank you
