Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

With KMS enabled, no Fullscreen 3D Applications are possible. I only get a white Screen, with some fading, mist-like colours. The System runs in background, sound works and the Applications seems to run in background.

When disabling KMS via radeon.modeset=0 on Grub, everything is fine. The nomodeset entry does not work.

One note: this was tested with OpenArena, Quake3, RTCW and some Wine-Emulated Games.

Edit: I noticed tha same behaviour when switching to a lower resolution via System>Preferences>Displaysettings. Gladly there is the 30Sec. Countdown that brought back the Screen. So it seem that this isn't just with 3D-Apps.

Is this a regression? Were you able to play 3D games with earlier versions? Please try re-booting with earlier kernels (go into grub to select them) and see if that is sufficient to get the 3D games to work properly again.

Since disabling KMS is enough to make this work properly, I'm gathering that this is an issue with the DRM code in the kernel. So I'll reassign to the kernel for now.

The oldest Kernel I could test with was 2.6.32-16, the Problem occours there too. In Karmic everything was fine. Also tried 2.6.32-18 and its the same there.

I will test now with http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.32.8/

Ok, this was kind of stupid, I guess.

This Bug still exists. Tried some things again after the updates from last week (radeon/ati) but this is still happening. Now it is even worst: if I change the resolution and press escape, I only have garbage on the screen and have to restart the xserver.

Kernel is 2.26.32-20

Could it be that this one here is a dupe of Bug #533784?

This is still "incomplete". What information is needed else?

A bit of Info would be nice here. It's not a week 'til the Final and in this State, Lucid is nearly unsusable for me.

I've tested Kernel 2.6.34-020634rc6-generic from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/. Sadly with a white Screen, too.

Many thanks for your interest here. I was in doubt if the report wasn't made right, I'm still learning about this.

Tested again with 2.6.34-020634rc7-generic. Fullscreen is working without Problems. The Performance is still far from usable, but I don't get a white screen here.

Could someone change the Tags here from "apport-bug i386 lucid resolution" to something like "apport-bug i386 lucid KMS 3D Fullscreen"?
