Bug Description

Binary package hint: gray-theme

[Edgy Knot 1]

Only human and clearlooks themes display correctly. Whenever I try to use the gray or industrialTango gtk theme I get :

/usr/share/themes/Gray/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:35: error: invalid identifier `xthickness', expected valid identifier
/usr/share/themes/IndustrialTango/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:29: error: invalid identifier `xthickness', expected valid identifier

I can confirm this. For some reason we are missing the engine for Gray's gtk+ theme.

Maybe Andrea Cimitan can assist with this as he wrote the theme and if I remember correctly the engine too.

Mike reported on bug #74256 a possible dependency problem:

gtk-engines-pixmap needs to be set as a dependency for this theme.

I just hit this same bug.

Today I just hit this very same bug.
I was installing the Frozen Plastic theme, and it was completely broken.
By trying other themes, I also realized that the Gray theme that ships by default was also broken.

As already reported, the cause is the dependency on gtk2-engines-pixbuf, that is *not* shipped by default.
The SOLUTION is very simple, just mark the above package as a dependency of gray-theme.

By the way, it also fixed Frozen Plastic and probably many other pixbuf themes around.
The Ubuntu Artwork Team has always been a very busy group.
Is there any way I can fix this in the repos?

Is this still a problem in the latest stable of Edgy or Feisty? or the development release of Gutsy?

No, it's not a problem in Gutsy.
Gutsy does not come with Gray installed by default anymore.
And gtk2-engines-pixbuf is installed by default.

But it MIGHT still be a problem in Edgy. (I have no way to check)
And Edgy is still supported.

Arion (or any edgy users), can you reproduce this bug in Edgy Final?

We are closing this report because it is fixed in Gutsy and Edgy support as reached end-of-life. If this is still an issue in Feisty please feel free to reopen.

Thanks for helping to make Ubuntu better.
