The Quick-Search actually is greyed out. Is this on purpose?

Hi!

The same with me. But after I installed the package apt-xapian-index it's working again.
Thanks Jean.
Maybe this package (apt-xapian-index) should be recommended in the synaptic package.

installing apt-xapian-index made it work. Thank you!
(If the quick-search-field wasn't there at all, it would be easier to understand that this funktion was deliberately ommitted in lubuntu to save diskspace and the machine faster: building the index takes long on old machines...)

a-x-i is part of the Recommends of synaptic but maybe Lubuntu is so lightweight that it doesn't install recommends by default.
You should report it to the maintainer of the distribution.

I'm closing this report because it's not a bug with Ubuntu.
