Bug Description

Binary package hint: hplip

I made a clear installation and upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. When I tried to install my printer (HP LaserJet P1006) in HPLIP-gui I set up the printer, but installation of the required proprietary plugin failed. I had a similar problem in 9.10 (I filed a bug in upstream: https://bugs.launchpad.net/hplip/+bug/525901) and this time, the solution was the same. I downloaded an installation file of HPlip from its website and installed it. Suddenly, it worked. Because it was exactly the same version of HPLIP as in the Ubuntu repository I assume that there is a problem in the Ubuntu package.
Unfortunately the installation process of the required plugin didn't provide enough information. Unlike in 9.10 wherein some error in Python code occured (see the link above) it just said the installation failed.

The version of Ubuntu: 10.04
The package of hplip:
 Candidate: 3.10.2-1ubuntu3
  Version Table:
     3.10.2-1ubuntu3 0
        500 http://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
The upstream version that works: hplip-3.10.2
Affected printer: HP LaserJet P1006
