I have the same problem. I wanted to do a dist-upgrade from Karmic to Lucid but I got the same error message.

Architecture: i386
LANG=hu_HU.UTF-8
SHELL=/bin/bash

I don't use any nonfree kernel module.

Marking Confirmed per subchee's confirmation message.

Setting importance to Medium as this is very confusing and may affect more than just initramfs-tools.

Changed in apt (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Medium
