openssl cannot validate certs for certain sites when using https and ruby

Binary package hint: openssl
When connecting to certain sites, this one: https:/
When using ruby it fails with a validation error,
but when using openssl s_client or wget it works.
Changing ruby to use a homecooked version of openssl work's fine.
My first thought about this was that the specific site uses a wildcard certificate,
but I can connect other sites with wildcard certs without validation errors.
my openssllib version: 0.9.8g-15ubuntu3.4

There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 545872 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
