Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

My Lenovo x200s is connected to an external monitor (Acer AL2016W).

When I suspend by closing the lid on my laptop, I see the login screen on the monitor for second before it suspends.

Then after I resume (by opening the lid) the login screen is there on the external monitor and after I log in the laptop screen is not showing anything. I think the laptop screen is disabled.

When I open display properties it turns on the laptop screen.

I have very similar symptoms on a macbook2,1.

Bug 377598 makes it even more annoying -- have to alt-f2 and launch gnome-display-properties to get back to something I can see. And then the two screens have swapped around in layout.

Here's my lspci -vv.

This behavior is new with lucid btw.

For me at least, this is worse than I thought: I don't get LVDS back even when the external monitor is not plugged in.

In fact, on opening the laptop, the machine doesn't resume. Pressing the power button resumes, but doesn't activate the screen. Ctrl-alt-f1 ctrl-alt-f7 gets me back to the unlock screen.

At least I've found a workaround :-)

Michael, your issue might be something else, I'd suggest you file a new bug for it against the kernel.

There were a couple of kernel fixes for problems matching your description applied to the 2.6.32-18 and 2.6.32-19 kernels. Can you re-test with the current 2.6.32-19 kernel to check whether this problem has been fixed? Thanks.

Hmm, well in any case with -intel output setup is now done by the kernel drm kms code, so refiling to the kernel in case it still remains unfixed.

affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
