Bug Description

Ubuntu 10.04 Beta 1 - UNR.
I made the ISO into a usb-stick (UNR version).
I booted Ubuntu, and chose "try Ubuntu" - I did not install Ubuntu.
Ubuntu booted, but without wireless. Network manager does not show any wireless networks, even though there are several networks available in the site.

Machine is an Asus Eee-pc 701 4G.

It seems that it is not a Network Manager bug.

Hi Zatta,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 544991

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

At first the RC1 had the same behavior: no wireless.
Then I searched for this bug in the launchpad database. A certain bug (don't remember which) had a comment on enabling the wireless interface in the bios setting.
I rebooted, entered the ASUS bios, set wlan to ON, and then it worked.
---------
Important: the linux distribution I have installed does not care wheter wlan is set in bios or not. This (Lucid Lynx) does. It is not a bug, but some users are perhaps having the same problem (566496, 555807, 554135, 548539 seem to be the case). How can users be advised that Lucid Lynx cares about wlan bios setting?

Actually, the other distribution I have in my disk DISABLES wlan in the bios when shutting down. And Lucid Lynx insists on wlan being ENABLED in the bios, so it is important to enable it again every time I try Lucid Lynx.
