Bug Description

Binary package hint: sun-java5-bin

as shown below :

$ file /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java
/usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.4.0, stripped

$ ldd /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0x00002aaaaabc2000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00002aaaaacd7000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x00002aaaaadd9000)
        /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x00002aaaaaaab000)

the versions of the libraries required don't match either what ubuntu provides leading to potential incompatibilities

 status Rejected

Sun java is closed source so it is not possible to recompile. Moreover:
it works fine as-is.

Changed in sun-java5:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected
