thunar unable to browse folders in "detailed view"

Binary package hint: thunar

in freshly installed xubuntu 10.04 beta1, i am unable to browse into subfolders in Thunar if "view as detailed list" is selected.

For example, when i launch Thunar, it opens in say "/" and I am succesfully able to browse (using mouse or keyboard) into
say "/etc". However if I browse back again to "/", then suddenly it does not react to mouse-clicking on any folder name.
This issue only relates to "detailed" view - icon and compact view work fine.

Also the right-click folder context menu (open,open in new windows etc) is lost when this occurs.

In my .xsession-errors i get stuff like:

(Thunar:1339): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_window_type: assertion `GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed

but I cannot tell if it relates to the problem.

Update and correction: browsing using my keyboard does NOT give the problem (as I wrongly reported). so it relates only to the mouse interaction on the folder.
