Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Running 64bit Ubuntu Linux Beta 1.
Installed Firefox 3.7a3pre (3.7~a3~hg20100304r38917+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1) from ubuntu-mozilla-daily PPA (and all dependencies).
Installed Adobe Flash Plugin 64bit v10.0.45.2 using flashplugin-installer from a PPA.
Navigating to some certain websites which have flash content will cause the browser to completely crash, browser process needs to be manually ended.
Tried with Firefox 3.6.3 (3.6.3~hg20100315r33738+nobinonly-0ubuntu1~umd1) and the plugin works correctly as expected.

*Additional testing*
As the 64bit version of Flash Player is not officially supported, I removed it and installed the 32bit Flash Player v10.0.45 using nspluginwrapper. Symptoms are identical to previously described. Again, works fine in 3.6.3.

Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Do you get the same results with the 32 bit flash player? We don't support the 64 bit flash player at this time.

Ok, I have done some more testing.
I get EXACTLY the same symptoms when using the 32bit version of Flash Player v10.0.45 on Firefox 3.7a3pre. Again, no problems at all on Firefox 3.6.3.
Also, it doesn't just affect some websites, I have found it is every website with any form of flash will cause the browser to completely crash.

I have not run into any issues with Firefox 3.7 and Flash. However, I did have to disable the new feature that runs Flash in a separate process from the browser (does not work properly in Linux yet, just tried again a few days ago). Please go to "about:config" in Firefox and ensure that "dom.ipc.plugins.enabled" is set to "false" and see if that resolves the issue. Thanks in advance!

Okay. I tried that. It works, but still some minor issues, like the controls for video don't work in Youtube, and other little flash-related issues. But the crashing is gone with the work-around.

@Ash
Please see the third workaround provided on the report for bug 410407 to resolve the buttons not working.

@Joey
Could you please try disabling the about:config setting I pointed to before? Thanks!

Well done man... ;o)
Everything is perfect now. I would suggest to set this setting as default for all new installations of firefox 3.7

The decision to enable this feature was made upstream, and it was done so the feature could be tested. Since it is new and still under development, I'm not sure if an upstream bug report is necessary. I will discuss this with some others soon and we will decide whether to close this report or report it upstream. Thanks again for reporting this to us!
