I have this problem too. Ubuntu Edgy.
Don't know if it is relevant, but if I start k3b from a terminal I get this message when I try to update the permissions in the setup:

qstring_to_xtp result code -2
Session management error: Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed

after you run the setup please run sudo dpkg-reconfigure cdrecord and make it use suid please. Please let me know if this fixes thei issue for now.

making programs suid root is not a good idea

k3b does not tell me that the permissions are wrong anymore when I start. However, if I run the setup anyway and try to update permissions, I get the same error-message ("Could not update all permissions") as before.

The same bug affects my system (Feisty). Starting k3bsetup in comnand line or using k3b>checking permission give the following output :

I don't understand why this is listed with importance of "Wishlist". Can someone explain?
I have the problem here too and I don't know of any workarounds. Is it that k3b in Ubuntu does not come with the required 'k3bsetup2' module? Where can I obtain this module?
