example server array PV 'alan' does not have time stamps

I used makeBaseApp.pl in R3.14.7 to create the caServer
example application. It built and executes without
problems (no command line parameters) but when I do
a camonitor on the pvs I do not get valid timestamps.
his happens with both the camonitor from base and
extensions.

alan is an array - I see that the example server code
exVectorPV.cc does not update the time stamp
