Hi there.
It is not clear if the problem that you are seeing is indeed a problem with rtorrent. You mention that it is not terminating, right? Please, see if rtorrent is in state D with top, ps, or htop when that occurs.
When you reported this bug, your rtorrent process was in state R, which means that, barring any other bug, it should be killable.
If it is, then it will be unkillable indeed, as what is busy is the kernel, and not a single program.
Please, do provide more information. And, if possible, it would be nice if you could test with a newer version.
