Bug Description
When I attach my Western Digital (WD) USB hard drive it doesn't get automatically mounted. The same USB device works well at the same PC using Ubuntu Hardy (8.04).
When I run 'dmesg' before and after attaching the usb hard drive I get at the second run the following additional output:
[ 1990.712516] usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 26
[ 1990.836006] usb 3-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71

lsusb does not list my USB hard drive.
This bug looks similar to bug #387161, however that bug was about different USB devices.
Can you please do
sudo mv /lib/udev/ udisks- probe-ata- smart{, .disabled}
and unplug/replug the device, and check if it still happens? (This requires that you are running current lucid).
Also, please run "apport-collect 540599" to attach information about your hardware. Please use "ubuntu-bug linux" to file kernel bugs in the future. Thanks!
