Bug Description

ENABLING IO-APIC IRQs
... TIMER: vector=0x31 apic1=0 pin1=2 apic2=-1 pin2=-1
.. MP-BIOS bug:8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
... trying to set up timer (IRQ0) through the 8259A ... failed
...trying to set up timer as Virtual Wire IRQ... failed
...trying to set up timer as ExtINT IRQ... failed :(
Kernel panic - not syncing: IO-APIC + timer doesn't work! Boot with
apic=debug and send a report. Then try booting with the 'noapic' option

This happens on my Apple Macbook, white base model. I get this error at boot time almost at every boot.
My solution is to boot once OSX, unplug and plug ac adapter again, and then boot ubuntu.
Most of the time this works.

Using append = "noapic" works too, but gives strange slowdown problems (while moving mouse or typing for example). Using "apic=debug" does not give extra informations.

Does this still occur with latest edgy kernel? If so, please test 2.6.17-6 when it comes out (within a few days).

Confirming it's still a problem with Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy) and its kernel 2.6.17-10-generic! Duplicate of bug #54621, look there for a work-around...

The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached its end of life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft kernel task. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
