Bug Description

Binary package hint: plymouth

After upgrading to latest plymouth I have problems to get in X using kms.
The system locks in the ubuntu logo, although there is disk activity.
I can shut down the system by pressing the power button.

This is on lucid with x packages from xorg-edgers, using an ATI X2300.

P.S.
Without kms everything seems to work fine.

Could you please describe in detail everything you see while booting. Do you see an Ubuntu logo, or do you see "Ubuntu 10.04" ? Do the dots below animate? Does the animation stop at any point? Do you see a mouse cursor? Are you able to move that mouse cursor? etc.

Are you using Ubuntu or Kubuntu or Xubuntu, etc.?

There is no visible mouse cursor.

This is on kubuntu.

Thankyou. The Kubuntu/KDM issue is believed to be fixed with the latest updates (plymouth 0.8.0~-16) - if you have this version installed, and are still having issues, please reopen the bug

I'm running nouveau + an nvidia 6200 card,

The plymouth boot screen locks up the computer,even with the new 0.8.0~-17 0 version.
When this occurs I don't have graphical acces to the computer, but ssh works. If I try to kill plymouth, it doesn't stop.

I have to uninstall (or use a boot option I guess) plymouth to get to gdm again after a reboot.

Any info needed, ask away :)

ssh in the next time it freezes, can you answer the following:

 * Run ps aux

 * is the X server running? can you paste the line from "ps" for it

 * cat /proc/PID-OF-X-SERVER/wchan

 * cat /proc/PID-OF-PLYMOUTH/wchan

 * run "plymouth --ping" does it return?

 * echo "$?" - what is the number?

Thanks

Scott
