Bug Description

Binary package hint: x11vnc

I want to connect from Vista x86 to Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic - fully updated as of this date.
Using the preference I enabled Remote Desktop using a password and not requiring confirmation.

From Vista x86 I tried TightVNC and UltraVNC and got the same behaviour.

http://www.uvnc.com/download/1082/1082viewer.html
http://www.tightvnc.com/ both stable release and beta release behavior the same.

Open WindowsFirewall for program on vista system.
Network is local 100mbs Ethernet.

Connection works fine.
Password requested.
Screen refreshes once and shows correctly.
Cursor moves fine.
No screen updates occur after that.

If you shut down the connection and then start it again you see the windows [firefox for example] that you opened last time.

You see the remote cursor move, but no updates of the screen occurs.

Looks like an Ubuntu bug.

- Thanks
Windy

Disabling System>Preferences>Appearance Display Effects [COMPIZ?] has allowed this to work. Perhaps this is a known bug.

Yes, this bug in Xorg/compiz has been around for over 3 years:

Another way to workaround it is to add the "-noxdamage" option to x11vnc. Searching for x11vnc and noxdamage will lead to more discussion.

It seems this bug isn't x11vnc bug and I think it's a duplicate of bug #353126

Btw, http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/faq.html#faq-beryl I found, that x11vnc already works with newest nvidia (AFAIK with newest ati/amd too) drivers:
Update: as of May/2010 NVIDIA may have fixed this problem in their proprietary drivers. See the NVIDIA Release Notes ( http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=151186 - look for 'x11vnc'.)
