Bug Description

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

I tried with default kvm version in karmic, then I with backported by myself version from lucid.

Problem exists in both - at some point Solaris and OpenSolaris guest machines have problems with input/output operation. After it they are completely unuasable.

I am using kvm_amd module with following kvm options:

kvm -enable-kvm -m 1024 -net nic,vlan=2,model=rtl8139 -net user,vlan=2,hostfwd=tcp::2222-:22 -drive file=/dev/vg0/opensolaris-09.06,cache=none,index=0,media=disk -drive file=../osol-0906-x86.iso,index=1,media=cdrom -vnc 0:2 -boot once=d "$@"

I tried also without cache option.

In natty I was able to install and then boot opensolaris.

In maverick, install worked, but subsequent boot hung the host. http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Guest_Support_Status mentions using '-vga std', which I have not yet tried.

Actually I think '-smp 2' is what was causing me trouble. I've had several successful boots with and without '-vga std', but none with '-smp 2' under maverick. The host hanging may have been due to gvncviewer, though I'm not certain.

Then again I think the one failure I had was spurious (other things
are on that laptop). I've had no subsequent failures using any
combinations of '-vga std', '-smp 2', '-vnc :1', 'boot c'.
