Bug Description

I have an Epson EP-802A printer/copier/scanner. I googled on how to find out if my scanner works with the epkowa driver, and found out that I had to do the following things:

- add some HAL information
- add some udev rules
- added a usb <vendor> <model> in my /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf

I am not sure if I needed the HAL information as well, but just for completeness' sake I added it.

Here is the lsusb line for my scanner:

Bus 001 Device 005: ID 04b8:0852 Seiko Epson Corp.

As you can see, vendor ID 04b8 and model ID 0852.

I had to add the "scanner" group myself - it didn't seem to be a standard group in Ubuntu - and added myself as a member of the group. I checked the permissions of the scanner's device file in /dev/bus/usb and it was set correctly after the udev rules were in place, and a reboot. I opened xsane, and it recognized it.

Not really a bug, just an addition to the "known devices" list
