Colour artefacts on taller than default panel

Bug Description

Binary package hint: light-themes

I have the top panel expanded to 36 pixels from the default of 24 pixels. this results in some weird and uneven looking colour artefacts.

This seems to be a duplicate of bug #532309 and similar to other panel scaling related bug reports
