Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

The laptop suspends and resumes normally this was tested via kernel team script. But if I have power management set to suspend when on battery power and I close the lid, the laptop does not suspend as expected, If I wait for a bit and reopen the lid I get a message that X is in a low-res mode. I have to reboot to fix this.

This bug can be reproduced as it happens every time I do these steps.

There's a backtrace in the X log so looks pretty definitely to be an X crash. However I notice it is terminating on SIGQUIT, which sounds a bit similar to bug #532047 or some permutation thereof. Can you try uninstalling plymouth and seeing if you can reproduce the issue after that?

Removed plymouth, no change, close laptop lid, unit does not suspend, open laptop lid and X is in low-res mode again. There was some error message on screen but it disappeared with the low-res message appearing.

The trigger and symptoms seem suspiciously similar to bug #535640, even though there's no GPU lockup set here. That bug may have been exposed by a patch dropped in the .33 drm backport into the 2.6.32-16 kernel - can you reproduce this crash on the 2.6.32-15 kernel or earlier?

I think I have the same issue. Suspend/resume using the panel menu works fine, but suspend fails if I close the lid.
I get mainly a black screen when I reopen the lid, and sometime I get the "low resolution" dialog.
