Bug Description

Ubuntu Lucid, fully updated to current packages, running the linux-image-2.6.32-16-generic kernel.

When i boot into the latest version 2.6.32-16.25, the system becomes barely usable, with compiz running on an ATI Radeon HD 4650.

Takes around 4 seconds for the menu to open, and a further 5 seconds for a program to open once i click on it, also the compiz effects show in delayed frames that basically makes the program freeze.

Also its making my system freeze every couple of seconds.

But if i load the 2.6.32-15.22 version, my computer runs smoothly.

Please let me know if you need to see any more logs.

Thanks

I've had the same problem, periodically freezing system (every 10 secs), compiz not working, with 2.6.32-16.25 using a Radeon HD 3450 on an Intel machine with 2.8 GHz P4 and 2 GB RAM . I've reverted to 2.6.32-15.22 and the problems have gone away.

Hi William,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 535444

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
