Karmic ships with mumble 1.2.2-1ubuntu1, not 1.1.8-3. Please use the package that came with karmic.

Sorry about that, karmic does ship with 1.1.8-3, my brain was off-by-one.

Can you try the 1.2.2 release from my PPA at https://launchpad.net/~slicer/+archive/ppa and see if that solves your problem?

I have Lucid (Mumble 1.2.2), I select Pulseaudio and the USB headset I use for Skype and Mangler and Mumble goes gray and must be kill -9'd. I had it working before in Lucid, not sure what triggers this hang.

I fixed my problem on Lucid by deleting the [pulseaudio] section from the config file and manually adding my new USB headset. Then I could rerun the audio setup wizard and use mumble.

By the way, if you delete the section entirely mumble will not recreate it. Feature request: if the pulseaudio section is missing, reset the device list and run the audio setup wizard automatically.

I had exactly the same problem. I tried USB headsets first but they didn't work and decided to use my older (non-USB) headsets instead. But now mumble busy looped during audio wizard, cpu utilisation was 100% and I had to kill mumble.

Workaround was the same as in comment #5, edit ~/.config/Mumble/Mumble.conf and remove the two lines mentioning usb headset.

This was on lucid (amd64) and mumble 1.2.2-1ubuntu1.

Deleting lines from the config file worked for me too.

Similar problem on ubuntu natty 11.04. Mumble had no audio on usb headset and would hang when I ran the audio settings wizard until I removed the [pulseaudio] section that was referring to a bluetooth headset.
