Thank you for your bug report. Could you not add "wishlist" to titles where launchpad has bug settings you can use to specify this information? Could you also give details about the usecase, most protocoles keep the contact list on the server making export and import useless. What would export do export, all the contacts for all ims? In which format? How would import be working?

importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Incomplete
summary: - [Wishlist] Import/export of Contact
+ Import/export of Contact

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME.

=> OK sorry

=> It's useful to import contacts from other mail without having to manually write all

For example: I have account in yahoo mail and using msn: I don't have yahoo contact in my msn contact list

But if you find it not useful you can save invalidates

empathy is an im client, it has contact lists on the server. could you give an example of protocol you are using where contacts are not showed when using the account on a new installation? ie where you need to import those. jabber and msn have the list on the server and you get it displayed from wherever you connect without having to import those

I want to use the same contacts in empathy that I use in evolution, in my smartphone, in ubuntuone, in linkedin, in openldap etc. Today there are much the same people but I have to update information at several places and add new contacts not in one application but several. I have to remember what media / social forum / what database / handset / application I find information of a particular person. My contact list is not the same in my phone that i find in empathy or evolution. Do I have him/her in jabber, msn, evolution or in my job phone? No she is not online I better email or call her on cell instead...

If its possible to export/import contacts to empathy it helps to maintain updated information in all applications at daily use.

For example there is very hard to export the contact list from facebook, but empathy has it (thru the jabber protocoll)

@Sebastian: I'll give you example - Gadu Gadu. It stores contacts on server, but Empathy is unable to import them anyway automagically and there is no such option anywhere.

Pidgin does it, so why Empathy can't ?
