Bug Description

I was reading a webpage on firefox when it happened. I was not resuming from any hibernation or suspension at the time the computer hanged. I tried killing the X server through Ctrl Alt Backspace (which was enabled) and rebooting with Ctrl Alt Del. I didn't remember to try Alt PrtScr RSEIUB but did a hard reset instead.

When it happened, I got a black screen with an immobile mouse pointer.

It did not happen after resuming from suspend-to-ram (as in bug #533498).

Can you reproduce this? I know the initial occurrence was not caused by a suspend/resume, but it wouldn't hurt to try to reproduce it by doing such. If you can reproduce the issue, can you try booting with the command line paramenter "notsc" to see if it fixes your issue?

Thanks

I looked through your WifiSyslog.txt and I saw multiple WARNING statements. It seems to me that when your machine froze it was due to a different WARNING statement than what is logged in the bug report. The reason the bug report logged the WARNING it did is because it was the last WARNING in the logs.

I am changing the title to more accurately reflect the hang you saw.

Further, the hang you saw was due to graphics drivers. We have update the graphics drivers in kernel 2.6.32-16. If you can reproduce this issue on this or a later kernel, please move the bug back to the triaged state. Otherwise, please move the bug to invald. We will track the rb_add_time_stamp issue in a different bug.

Thanks

Unfortunately, hibernate doesn't work so I'm unable to try to reproduce the bug thus. Regular suspend does work and it doesn't reproduce it.

This may be completely unrelated, but I do notice that my computer is strangely laggy after suspend, something that didn't happen before.

I don't understand what you mean by "we've upgraded the graphic drivers for kernel 2.6.32.16". Is there a newer version of the Kernel 2.6.32.16 that the one I have right now that I should download and install or should I try to reproduce the error with the same kernel I'm on right now?

I can install a later kernel if you point me to a repository or a deb package. I could compile one from source too but I would have to learn how to do it and it'll take a bit longer.

By the way, at most 12 hours before this occurred I had done a full upgrade through the update manager.

I found a deb for kernel 2.6.33-020633-generic on http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline. I'll be running it and will let you know if I can reproduce the bug.
