Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I just did a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10 x64 from CD and the Update Manager never completes downloading files. If I select only "Canonical supported" in the Software Sources, then it works just fine, but as soon as I select any other options it doesn't finish downloading after the reload. I have to hit cancel and it gives the following output:

Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/karmic/Release.gpg
Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/karmic/main/i18n/Translation-en_US.bz2

Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

If I change "Download from" to "Main Server" instead of "United States sources", then it completes just fine.

Is this problem persistent? Have you tried the us mirror again?

Just curious to know what happened. Is the issue persistent? Did you manage to sort out the issue?

I just tried it again and download/update doesn't finish when I chose "Server for United States" in Software Sources, but works just fine when I chose "Main Servers".

Is there some sort of log file or debug output that I can grab and attach to this bug report to help diagnose what the problem is?

1. In a terminal navigate to /var/log/dist-upgrade

2. Compress the contents of folder into an archive using the following command:

sudo tar cvf ~/Desktop/dist-upgrade.tar *
