I get very similar bugs, as I also have an HP printer. Valgrind shows many errors in the HP drivers...

@Jim and anyone using a multi-function HP scanner/printer: are you using HPLIP Toolbox to configure your device ? If not, please do so and test again. It's easily installed through the Ubuntu Software Center or via Synaptic/command-line, the package name is hplip-gui.

I am using several HP printers and multifunctions including scanning over network just fine on 64-bit with the latest updated Lucid.

I have HPLIP loaded. This was a random crash. Overall it's pretty stable.

Please download and install the latest version hplip-3.11.7 from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html and install it using "sh hplip-3.11.7.run".

Let us know if you're facing any issue here.

This is definitely still an issue in Precise Alpha 1.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Start Simple Scan. Check that it is set to scan in Photo mode.
2. Start a scan, then shortly after it begins filling in the image hit the cancel button.
3. Switch the scanning mode to Text.
4. Press the Scan button again, and again cancel the scan partway through.
5. Press the button for setting up a new document. Select "Discard all changes" in the dialog that pops up.
6. Press the Scan button again. Simple Scan will now crash and close.

Note: the first time I tried this procedure, it crashed with this error. The second time it crashed as in bug 900289, but the procedure and result are the same.

Package versions:

simple-scan 3.2.1-0ubuntu2
hplip 3.11.10-1ubuntu1
hplip-gui 3.11.10-1ubuntu1
