gv fonts don't render properly in Dapper

Bug Description

I just did a fresh install of Dapper (Ubuntu 6.06) and gv no longer renders correctly. No bold fonts are displayed at all, for instance, and the fonts being used are ugly and hard to read.

I used gv daily on the same hardware under Breezy, and it always worked flawlessly. How can a working program be so badly broken on an udgrade?

Did you perhaps have a configuration in Breezy that made the fonts render better that was lost during the upgrade?

No configuration. It "just worked" out of the box in Breezy (and in Hoary for that matter), but in Dapper it is now broken.

There is a posting in the forums at

 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=181385

which seems to be relevant, and confirms that this problem was noticed by others besides me.

I attach two screenshots of the same file being rendered by gv on two different platforms, one running Breezy and the other running Dapper.

Thank you for your bug report. Do you still have this issue with the latest release of Ubuntu ?
