Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

With the new adium theme for empathy, the first chat window takes at least 5 seconds to open.
I think that the theme initialization should be done during startup.

Yes it is reproducible in my installation. The steps to reproduce are:
- reboot
- start empathy
- open a chat window
the following windows won't have the problem

Nicolo: What are you comparing this bug against? To me this doesn't really appear to be a bug, but the fact that loading the chat windows takes a little bit long.

I find strange that the first time I open the window it takes so long.
It might be better to preload the things that are loaded during the
first open, just when empathy is launched

No, my problem is that the window does not appear immediately.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

Do you get the issue with any contact or only in cases where there is quite some log to display?

Nicolo: does this happen when you load an IRC channel or a user chat?

I get the issue with any contact/chatroom even without logs. I think
it's related to adium (or webkit) initialization.

I've chatted with upstream, they say it's related to webkit initialization.
They will (in a very far future) move initialization to empathy
startup, if adium theme is selected.

Nicolo, I don't see this problem anymore with todays updates. Let me know
of your results.

the issue seems to have been confirmed by upstream, would be worth opening a bug on bugzilla if that's not already done though
