Since I'm on the light theme, a small white bar appeared on each side of the wallpaper

I cannot really tell from your screenshot, but isn't this a duplicate of bug 508119? Especially if you have an intel video card then this is very likely.

The border around the desktop wallpaper appears after changing themes / adding new icons to desktop. The border width and colour depends on the theme.... and it is currently believed to be xorg bug.
