From looking at gnome-nettool 2.31.6 in the the maverick release, the expectation of being able to edit the MTU information in place appears to me to be "unreasonable or overly optimistic".

The "Configure" button next to the chosen interface correctly brings up the Network Manager configuration tool for me, where the MTU and other settings can be changed. In contrast, gnome-nettool is designed only for viewing network-related information. So I don't see this as an issue of missing functionality.

No other settings can be configured in the interface information area, and the information text gives no visual indication of being editable, so I don't see this as an interface design / UX issue either.

comment from upstream:

"Nettools was made for diagnostic purposes. It does not run with
priviledges and it reports the information the user can gather
in a friendly way."

so is a won't fix.
