Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

Ubuntu Lucid up-to-date march 4th
Amarok version 2.2.2.90

Fresh install of Ubuntu (not Kubuntu) 10.04 ans amarok installed from Ubuntu Software Center

- I start amarok and go to settings > configure amarok > Collection
- Choose my Music folder then clickj Apply or Ok
- Progress bar seems to scan the folder but add nothing to the Collection (still empty)

Restarted amarok from a Terminal with --debug option.
Some lines appear with :
=====================================================
amarok: [ERROR!] Tried to perform query on uninitialized MySQL
=====================================================

Looked for the Database tab and the MySQL database usage is not checked.

So I think Amarok wants to use MySQL, even if not selected ...

At this time, I can't build my Collection ...

I had the same problem. Check if the 'mysql-server-core' package is installed. Installing this package solved the problem for me.

Maybe mysql-server-core should be made a dependency of amarok, or at least a recommended package.

Just providing another data point. I had the same behavior. I fixed it with

sudo apt-get install mysql-server-core

I believe the amarok package should be modified to depend on mysql-server-core.

This is already solved in the Kubuntu-backports PPA package for Amarok 2.3.1. Now if only this could be backported to the regular backports repository ASAP...
