Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

I've installed the karmic cups security update 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.4 and immediately the jobs on
all 4 HP Lasterjet and Kyjocera PF9120 network printer postscript were stopped. Error msg in error log are:

D [04/Mar/2010:17:03:14 +0100] [Job 4955] Error: May not be a PDF file (continuing anyway)
D [04/Mar/2010:17:03:14 +0100] [Job 4955] Error: PDF file is damaged - attempting to reconstruct xref table...
D [04/Mar/2010:17:03:14 +0100] [Job 4955] Error: Couldn't find trailer dictionary
D [04/Mar/2010:17:03:14 +0100] [Job 4955] Error: Couldn't read xref table

When I grep for the first msg in error_log the error appears with the 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.4 sec update and
disappears after I downgraded to 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.2

Your error_log shows

D [04/Mar/2010:17:00:15 +0100] [Job 4939] cat: write error: No space left on device

So it seems that CUPS is not able to create the temporary files needed to process your print jobs due to lack of disk space. CUPS puts these files into /var/spool/cups and /var/spool/cups/tmp.

Hmm, that's strange:

[0]root@ex-srv6:~/tmp# df -h /var/spool/cups /var/spool/cups/tmp
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 4.9G 2.9G 1.8G 63% /
/dev/sda1 4.9G 2.9G 1.8G 63% /

And in /var/log/messages I get no mesgs between end of upgrade and the reboot I've tried 40 min later.
I've also rsync 3.2 MB of 1.4.1-5ubuntu2.2 to / without IO errors before the downgrade.

I'll retry the upgrade again next Monday when I'm again in the office.

I've upgraded again and this time it looks like everything works.

Sorry for the false alarm,

I'm having this problem in 10.04, or one very much like it. I cannot print to my CUPS print server from windows machines running Adobe Reader. The printer is a Lexmark E220.
