VPN connection edit window too big on netbook when Gnome panel at bottom is enabled

The VPN connection edit window is too big on netbooks with a Gnome panel at the bottom, so the buttons at the bottom are hidden (outside of screen) and thus cannot be clicked.

Additionally the window cannot be resized. Again: this only affects netbook installations with a Gnome bottom panel and should not effect setups without that panel.

Either the window should be made resizable (maybe not possible) or some settings have to be moved in another tab for example.

I'm running UNR 10.04 on an HP Mini 1030NR. Even without any bottom panel in Gnome (just the top bar and application menu) the VPN connection edit window does not fit on the screen. The buttons are not visible by default and it seems the only way to access them is to alt-drag the window till they are visible.

I've tried recreating this bug with Oneiric Ocelot and was unable to, given the information you've provided. Please either a) upgrade and test or b) increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

I raised a bug for the same thing in Oneiric as that is where I am seeing the problem, and marked it as a duplicate of this one. (I did not know how to mark this bug as affecting Oneric.)

To confirm, I am running Oneric and can reproduce this. (bug#983115) I will attach a screenshot when I am able.

So that's the OpenVPN plugin then, right?

I'm pretty sure it is, though I don't happen to have the plugin installed on this computer right now, so I'll reassign to the package.

I think this should be pretty simple to fix as an update, and should be reasonably safe to do so. I'll map it in such a way as to deal with about 600px as a minimum to deal with the 1024x600 netbook screens, though not really any smaller. There isn't much missing, so it should be easy enough. Targetting to precise-updates, assigned to me so that I don't forget to get back to it soon.

No, there is no plan for a long-term fix yet.

The UI might need some rework, yes, but that would be better done upstream.

Otherwise, it's a matter of just how the UI is designed, so AFAICS no real way around it.

I'm going to unassign myself now because I don't expect to have time to work on it soon, but I doesn't mean the bug won't get fixed. We'll see. Maybe I can fit this in during travel time to UDS :)

Removing the milestone too, it affects more than just precise anyway, and is still relevant on newer releases: that means we'll fix this in the development release directly first, and then backport/SRU the changes if possible to previous releases.
