Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

After booting from the lucid-desktop-i386.iso Live CD Alpha 3 in Sun VirtualBox Graphical User Interface 3.0.8_OS and after choosing the english language, selecting the options

"Try Ubuntu without installing",
"Install Ubuntu" or
"check disk for defects"

the monitor appears to be absolutely black except a white underscore. No key(kombination) changes this. The same problem occured after installing Lucid Alpha 2 and updating it - rebooting led to the same problem. I am using an actual version of Karmik 09.10.

The same thing happens here with Lucid Alpha 3 after dist-upgrade from Karmic, on AMD64, with Nvidia GeForce 7050 integrated GPU.

Screen remains blank after seeing "Grub loading..." message. The annoying thing it does not allow me to enter grub menu by hitting escape key any more, so no hope of trying different kernel command lines to resolve this.

Same happend to me. For some reason I was able to move on to the installation menu and did a full install of Alpha 3. Then I updated with the latest updates and did a restart. Now I am back looking at the black screen with the underscore again.

This is with VirtualBox OSE 3.0.8 r53138

Maybe problem in VirtualBox?

You are correct, Timofey. It seems to be related to a problem with VirtualBox, because:

* the problem IS reproducible - I have several tried to install both the "Gnome" Alpha 3 and the "LXDE" Alpha 3 of Lucid Lynx, and there was the same problem

* I have installed manually the version 3.1.4 of Sun VirtualBox and now everything works fine (until now).

I change the status to invalid because it seems that it was not a bug but simply an unactual version of vbox.

Changed in ubiquity (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
