Bug Description
The update notifier bubble that pops up when an update is available does not get read out with screen readers like Orca. Once an update is savailable it is also not possible to activate the update manager with the keyboard from the gnome panel.
This has been discussed at lenth on the orca mailing list, starting with Cody Hurst writing: "I want to know if accessibility to the notification area is possible. Since I have some vision to make out popups and windows but nothing in them. I see littlewindows near the notification area, but orca does not seem to read the information when arrowing through it. There might be updates or icons there I need to click on. Am I doing something wrong or am I correct to say it is inaccessible." (The list archive is here: http://
We expect the problem is that update-notifier is not transmitting any useful AT-SPI information. I'm waiting for an update to become available so I can check this with at-poke ;)
I've checked this on Hardy and it still does not provide feedback. The solution is probably to teach the notification bubble code layer to check whether accessibility is turned on and if so send the message to AT-SPI.
