Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Was this with a new profile or with a Thunderbird 2 profile?

New profile and fresh install (formated disk for ext4 before that, I'm sure I had nothing of TB2 left).

This may get fixed by updating to 3.0.3 (see bug #530405).

The update to 3.0.3 did not fix the problem. It seems like the GUI does not refresh itself properly. I have to resize the TB window to see any items, but it still displays some GUI artifacts. I managed to enter some account information that way, but the program is still unusable. see screenshot (cropped).

I have the same problems with thunderbird 3.0.3. But everything works fine after disabling compositing in KDE.
I am running Kubuntu 10.04 with all updates applied. See attachment.tgz for screenshots an hardware information.

And the Xserver log as well

This bug seems to be the same as #555382. According to Xorg.0.log the radeon driver was used in both cases. Therefore I upgraded the mesa, Xorg and display drivers from the xorg-edgers repository and everything works fine!!! So it could be a radeon/mesa specific issue.

I keep installing updates, and this problem isn't going away, so I'm going to try jsiebold's move and install updates from xorg-edgers. I've now updated xserver-xorg-video-ati to version: 1:6.13.99+git20100424.b2ecd1bb-0ubuntu0sarvatt
I'll hold my breath and reboot - If this doesn't help, I'll update mesa next.

Well, that was a bad idea - screen went black when Xserver started. Xorg didn't like the driver version. I guess I have to update everything at once.
jsiebold, can you say which packages you updated and what version you updated to? Maybe just post your Xorg.0.log again now that you have it working.
