gwibber claims my Facebook password is incorrect but the same password works on Facebook itself

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gwibber

Gwibber will not allow me to authenticate my Facebook account, yet I literally tried copying and pasting the same password into both Gwibber and Facebook.com, and it only worked on Facebook through Firefox. This confirms that my password is correct, and something is wrong with the way Gwibber handles password authentication. Obviously, for security reasons, I can't just post my Facebook password here and say try it, so I'm going to list some things that may have to do with the issue: My password is somewhat long (32 Characters), it contains no special characters other than letters and numbers with mixed case capitalization (both upper and lower case characters), and there are no spaces. I am not sure why Gwibber will not allow me to authenticate with my Facebook account, but hopefully the issue will be resolved by Ubuntu Lucid's release...

I too have this issue, password is 10 characters long all lowercase with 2 numerics, doesn't work with the facebook username. This is on a system that was updated today Mar 23 2010.

I tried a 35 character long password with uppercase, lower case and numbers included randomly so marking this fixed. gwibber 2.29.94. Feel free to open this again if any body can still reproduce this with gwibber 2.29.94

I'd like to have this bug reopened. I'm trying to add a Facebook account using Gwibber 2.30.0.1 in Lucid Lynx and am experiencing the same problem. Gwibber claims that the password is incorrect even though it works with facebook.com in Firefox.

BIll, please open a new bug for the problem you are facing.

why is the status of this thread "fix released?" Where is this fix? I have the latest install of gwibber and I am still affected by this bug.

you should know gwibber does not use its own method of authentication. it shows the website inside it. the problem is at your end

no, the problem is with gwibber. I did not have this problem before. Ever since yesterday, gwibber cannot connect to facebook. I can log into Facebook on the website, but not with gwibber. I know my own username and password.

There are two problems here I have been having using gwibber 2.30.0.1 on Ubuntu 10.04. Both of them have been experienced by other people,.

1. Since Saturday I have not been able to post anything. It worked fine on Saturday, now it doesn't. You click send, and nothing happens.
2. After deleting my facebook account from gwibber in an attempt to set it up again, gwibber would not let me add a facebook account to my list. After entering my username and password, the Add button was simply not there.
3. After reinstalling gwibber and deleting the config files, I could add facebook again, but I still could not post anything and the feed was bearing no relationship to current events. This time, after clicking send, I get the message telling me there was an authentication error.
Deleted the account from gwibber again, and now I'm back to the situation where there is no Add button.

Can anyone help with this, or is this bug considered closed? If it is solved, could someone please help me reproduce the solution? It doesn't help if someone just says "well it now works for me, therefore problem solved."

Affects me as well. It led me through series of authentication confirmation screens and after hitting "allow" on the last one -- well basically nothing happened. No acoount for Facebook was created. In Facebook application settings I can see Gwibber is authorized. Trying to add the facebook account again just asks me to login to facebook. When I do that I get "faceboo authorized" and no account. If I press Authorixze button after that it just loads a window saying "Success" and nothing else happens.

Actually after clearing out the Gwibber's conf directory from /home/ magically solved my problem.

@ Jari
Could you be more specific about which directory you are talking about?
I tried clearing out ~/.cache/gwibber and also ~/.gconf/apps/gwibber and none of these solved my problem.

@Omar
I cannot provide a screenshot for you because now I am back to square one where I cannot even add my Facebook account. Jari's description above in post #13 is very accurate; this is exactly what happens for me.

I don't understand how gwibber was working normally, but then since last weekend it has demolished itself. Could a recent update have destroyed gwibber perhaps?

In synaptic package manager I tried to Force Version because there is a choice of either:
2.3.0.1-0ubuntu3 (lucid-updates)
2.3.0.1-0ubuntu1 (lucid)

If I try the latter, then I get the following error

E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
E: Unable to lock the download directory

So I'm stuck with the update it seems.

unfortunately I cannot verify whether this still is or is not an issue because I am also affected by the other bug which prevents me from adding my facebook account to gwibber. I am eagerly awaiting a fix. In the meantime, I am not using gwibber.

Austin, there is an updated version of gwibber in lucid-proposed that should
