This new upstream version has some nice new features as well as a few bugfixes

A bugfix patch just surfaced today, so I'll be doing a merge. If somebody could unsubscribe ubuntu-archive, that'd be great.

That's a rationale for why the package should *need* an FFe, but doesn't seem to present a rationale for *granting* an FFe. :) What are the nice new features, what are the risks associated with accepting this version?
