Bug Description
Binary package hint: kopete-facebook
I can't disable the notifications about Facebook friends coming on-line in Kopete. I try going to Settings -> Notifications -> Friend Gone On Line and try to disable everything. Then I stop and restart Kopete. But this message keep popping up.
The nature of Facebook is that many people have extremely long lists of friends, many more than they would have AIM contacts, say, and also that browsers and browser windows tend to get closed and reopened many more times than a typical IM client. The result is of course that the notifications are particularly frequent and obtrusive. Having the notifications permanently disabled, if that were the only other option, would be better than the present situation in which the Facebook functionality is bordering on unusable.

Facebook now supports chat via XMPP (aka Jabber), which is a native plugin to Kopete. Due to this change of circumstances kopete-facebook was recently removed from the archives in favor of the present solution. It is currently not planed to deploy further updates to the version used in Kubuntu karmic.
