Bug Description

While testing Lucid-Alpha-3 the suspend/resume function did not work.

After the suspend command the system shutdown. Pressing the power button the system (drives) as usual restarted but the monitor did not respond (stand-by signal). Not even on any keyboard or mouse action.

After a hard reset the system slowly came alive. During boot the system hanged. After some keyboard entries the log-in screen appeared. However network connection was shut-off and had to be re-enabled manually.

After several reboots the system appears to be subsequent slow in booting time. I guess the event caused some system disruption.

The actual configuration (normal desktop i-386) worked fine with suspend/resume until Ubuntu 9.10

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it without more information.

Please run the following command which will attach necessary information:

apport-collect 528471

Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository with 'sudo apt-get install python-launchpadlib'. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.

If you cannot use apport please at least add the following information (pay attention to lspci's additional options):

First run the following commands:
1) uname -a > uname-a.log
2) dmesg > dmesg.log
3) sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
4) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
then attach the files separately to the bug report (not pasted into comments or tar/zip-ed).

While testing Lucid-Alpha-3/Beta1 the suspend/resume function did not work with Linux kernel 2.6.32-14 as reported before. After a complete reinstall I noticed that it did works well with Linux kernel 2.6.32-15, but it won't work again with Linux kernel 2.6.32-16 and 2.6.32-17 until now.

jgv,
I need more than just a status change to justify reopening a bug. Please update me with regard to whether this is still seen in the latest release(Maverick) and the latest development (Natty).

Thanks!

JFo,

On August 12 last year the problem with suspend/resume still existed in the LTS as reported earlier. I was forced to leave the LTS(!) and I am now working with Maverick and testing Natty. The issue is not present in those releases. I have not used Lucid since then.
Appearently it is no major issue these days.
