add pdf highlighting and notes

I have found pdf highlighting and note-taking in Ubuntu to be very difficult. I use Mendeley only for this reason, it lets me highlight. I would like to stay away from closed source software and would like to use Referencer as my reference manager. Please, can you work out a way to allow Referencer to highlight pdfs? I know pdf highlighting isn't your domain but this would make Referencer complete and better than Mendeley.

I guess it would be hard to reimplement these features in Referencer. But what if Referencer could simply open your highlights instead of opening the PDF file?
