Bug Description
Binary package hint: indicator-me
The lack of character counting and URL shortening in the MeMenu text field forces me to open Gwibber to post long messages or links. Using the MeMenu for certain messages and Gwibber for others is inconsistent and feels awkward.

Sebastien, my original report included character counting *and URL shortening*. I could create one report for each issue, but the main point of the original one was that the field in indicator-me should be an exact emulation of the microblogging backend that powers it. In the case of Gwibber, this includes character counting, URL shortening and, in the future, autocomplete for replies.
If I remember correctly, the Me Menu uses a Gwibber widget library, so this suggestion does not seem too far fetched.
