Bug Description

Binary package hint: adept-installer

Add/Remove Program (based on adept) does not allow to enable universe. The problem is that it does allow to search in "unsupported" aka universe.

One has to go to System > Adept and "manage repositories"

Version: KUbuntu 6.06 from CD.

I was not able to confirm this bug. Could you please make sure your system is up to date and try to replicate the problem. The "bug" is w/ Adept and not add/remove programs.

I see what he saying. When you goto Kmenu>Add/Remove Programs. If the Universe or Multiverse repositories aren't enabled, then you can't search them. I don't know if I would classify this a bug, or a whishlist item. It is a valid point though. I don't use the Add/Remove Programs, so I never noticed this before. I can confirm that it does happen, but is it a bug?

Taken from https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/adept/+bug/52775 and created here. I think this is more of a wishlist item then a bug, marked this as upstream on launchpad.

If I understand this correctly,
Add/Remove programs can not search anything not available to APT.
Universe needs to be enabled in order to search it offline.
The alternative is to go to packages.ubuntu.com and search.

the alternative is NOT acceptable because it does not allow installing.

(I'm thinking about users here, because I never use GUI for that)

The bug is that there is no manage repositories menu entry in Adept Installer. One shouldn't have to go to a different program (the manager) to enable software repositories.

two things...

1) I think this is solved with the inclusion of software-properties

2) While I agree on the poor user experience, this is still a wishlist and not a bug.

Yes, repository management needs to be added to Adept in general. If it is done well enough, it should be accessible in all Adept components, I'd say.

You can access the Kubuntu repositories tool from Installer with Adept 3.0.
