This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the software. You can learn more about how to do this for various upstreams at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream. Thanks in advance!

I guess that depends on the fonts you're using there, could you try with another set ? thanks.

I confirmed in Takao Gothic (ttf-takao-gothic) and VL Gothic (ttf-vlgothic)

I copied this text to gedit and checked following things.
In unicode,
"ループバック" is "ループバック"
garbled text is "ルー\Uffffffffg ック"

summary: - Hardware address is garbled
+ Hardware address is garbled in Japanese environment
