After lucid installation, get empty black screen at login

Bug Description

Did a clean OEM installation from the daily image Ubuntu Desktop amd64 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/20100224/lucid-desktop-amd64.iso. After installation I rebooted and just got a blank screen, except for a flashing cursor at the top left and a mouse pointer (which was movable). Expected a login screen or desktop.

Tested on Dell 6400 Inspiron Laptop.

Switching between consoles 1 and then 7 got me to the login dialogue.

Same thing with Toshiba L30-134 (with ATI X200M). CTRL+ALT+F1 and CTRL+ALT+F7 solves the problem.

This problem exists by booting up a Persistent LiveUSB too.
