Bug Description

Binary package hint: samba

The file share feature of nautilus doesn't work for me in Ubuntu 9.10 (Desktop x86).

I set up anonymous access and write-access in the gui for a directory but i cannot read files from it on a remote machine.

The directory is /home/stather/VMs (drwxrwxrwx), and everything in this dir has rwxr-xr-x

and in the samba log i get:

[2010/02/24 10:28:16, 0] param/loadparm.c:8562(process_usershare_file)
  process_usershare_file: stat of /var/lib/samba/usershares/vms failed. Permission denied

drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4096 2010-02-24 08:31 samba
drwxrwx--T 2 root sambashare 4096 2010-02-24 10:27 usershares
-rw-r--r-- 1 stather stather 86 2010-02-24 10:27 vms

#VERSION 2
path=/home/stather/VMs
comment=fghdfghd
usershare_acl=S-1-1-0:F

Could you give the output of:
ls -ld /home/stather/VMs

Also try to add "usershare owner only = no" to your /etc/samba/smb.conf file.
Might be a dupe of bug 513427

I tried the network-share again and now it works for me with both anonymous and authenticated-only access.
The versions of the installed packages are:

ii samba 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.6 SMB/CIFS file, print, and login server for Unix
ii samba-common 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.6 common files used by both the Samba server and client
ii samba-common-bin 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.6 common files used by both the Samba server and client

However, i still see the "permission denied" errors in my log.xxxx logfile
It seems to me like they occur every time i try to access the network share.
