Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

When I have a conversation with people I sometimes have messages randomly drop. There is no error or anything that I can tell, I just don't get the messages. I checked in the log and don't see them either. This occurred both in Karmic and now in Lucid as well.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers of the software by following the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Omer, how can you be so sure this is an upstream bug without doing any investigation at all? And moreover, if any bug with any program in Ubuntu is simply going to be "Pushed Upstream", then, correct me if I'm wrong, there's very little POINT in Launchpad.

@scott, empathy is not developed by ubuntu developers Crash reports and some notification issues are handled here other issue are required to be sent upstream so that the developers of the app can look at it ask you the required information

and also if the user is having some type of problem like not able to connect then we ask them to perform certain actions on their system to troubleshoot the problem and if they fail we request or most of the times send them upstream if they are reproduce able/ wishlist reports.

@Scott Balneaves : since people are using empathy in ubuntu it's the default action of ubuntu reports to come here. 80% of the time they will be issues that are not related to something that we've done here in Ubuntu but something thats happened with the upstream code. It's not hard to report bugs upstream, and there are times in which it IS the fault of Ubuntu, and therefore having the report here is appropriate.

Thank you for your concern.

We didn't hear from you in a while. Can you test in updated Lucid or Maverick if the issue is still affecting you? If so, can you report it upstream? Thanks!
